One Piece is an adventure story that takes place in a world of five great seas, in the golden age of pirates. The golden age of pirates began with the execution of the pirate king, Gol D. Rogers. With his last words, he declared to to world that all his treasure was hidden, in “that place”, in one piece. His words inspired the age and many pirates began their search for Roger’s treasure. The story follows Monkey D. Luffy, a rubber man who has eaten the gum-gum fruit, and his crew of Strawhat Pirates who enter the grand line, the fifth and greatest sea of this world, where the one piece treasure is said to be hidden. Along the way they have many exciting adventures on this strange sea, and make many friends. This story plays out on a stage of clashing powers: the pirates that represent both chaotic good and chaotic bad force; the marines, who represent blind justice of the world government; the leaders of this world government, and the noble families making up the tenryuu; and the revolutionary army, led by Dragon, who are fighting to liberate island nations the world government. Within this struggle, the Strawhat Pirates are utterly unconcerned with it. All they care about is finding One Piece, and Luffy becoming the Pirate King. And what does it mean to become the king of pirates? To Luffy, it means be the person with the most freedom in the world.
